• Contrary to popular belief, wolves in the wild have no hierarchy in their pack. The dominance-subordination relationship of humans with dogs is therefore irrelevant in explaining the aggressive behavior of a companion dog. This one is not “poorly hierarchical” but rather resulted from a learning problem.

• A dog's sense of smell is exceptional because its nose has up to 300 million receptors. By comparison, a human nose has about 5 million.
